In a world that thrives on speed, security, and convenience, traditional plastic access cards are starting to be replaced by digital security methods like mobile credentials. Smartphones have become a crucial part of our daily lives. Keeping us connected to friends, family, and businesses. Now we can utilize this technology for safe and secure access. But, what are mobile credentials and why are companies turning to this as their preferred method for secure access?
What are Mobile Credentials?
Mobile Credentials are digital credentials that can be stored inside a smartphone or a smartwatch. They act as physical access cards granting you access to secure areas. Now the user can tap their phone instead of their card to gain access. Through our partnership with SoloInsight Inc. we provide this form of credentialing with a Software called “CloudGate”.
CloudGate utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Near Field Communications (NFC) and QR Codes. It also allows the user to store the digital ID inside their Google, Apple, or Samsung wallets.
Why are Mobile Credentials gaining momentum?
Enhanced Security – phones can be protected by biometrics, PINs, or passwords granting additional security compared to a physical card. It is not as easy to clone a phone as it is to clone a physical ID card. Cards can be deactivated instantly.
Scalability and Flexibility – Mobile credential systems can scale easily. Administrators can manage access rights remotely, push updates in real-time, and integrate with existing security structures. IRIS can integrate with up to 100 different access control systems with CloudGate.
Cost Savings – Less time spent issuing and managing plastic cards. Cuts down on physical inventory, reduces the number of replacement cards issued, and simplifies the onboarding/offboarding process.
Convenience and User Experience – Most people always keep their phones on them. Mobile Credentials reduce the need to carry extra cards and seamlessly integrate with smartphones or apps.
How to choose a solution & what you should consider:
Every use case is different for each organization. Some may or may not need a visitor management system or a room selector. SoloInsight and IRIS will work together to find the best solution that meets your needs. Some key points when choosing a solution:
Compatibility
Security features
Vendor Reputation/Support Reputation
User Experience
Ease of Deployment and Management
Mobile Credentials have multiple use cases and solutions:
Colleges/Universities – issue student IDs on phones for meals, dorms, and lab access.
Healthcare – ensure only authorized staff can access sensitive areas
Residential – offer tenants access to buildings, units, and shared amenities
Corporate Offices – grants employee access to multiple locations while managing it from one central location
The integration of mobile credentials is a transformation. Organizations that take advantage of these technologies enhance security, reduce costs, and modernize the user experience for all within their organization. Your phone is no longer a form of communication, but the key to the future as mobile access becomes the next standard.
